What is FotoFacial™
FotoFacial™ is a series of intense pulsed light treatments that don’t require any downtime.
A FotoFacial™ greatly improves:
- Irregular pigmentation
- Sun damage
- Age spots
- Facial redness
- Enlarged pores
Treatments are performed on the face, neck, chest, hands – anywhere residents of Phoenix and Goodyear, AZ want to improve uneven pigment. FotoFacial™ is quick, safe, and effective without any downtime. You may resume normal activities right after the treatment.
How does the treatment work?
A concentrated light is applied in a series of quick and gentle applications over the treatment area. Without damaging the skin, the light penetrates the skin and is absorbed by the abnormally dilated vessels and brown pigmentation. The heat damages the vessel or lesion, and in response to this damage, the body initiates its natural healing process. The lesion will likely darken before it eventually falls off, or the body may absorb it. Treatment can be given in three week intervals until the desired result is achieved.
How many treatments will I need?
For optimal results, a series of three to five treatments are recommended. Follow-up or maintenance treatments may be recommended annually to maintain the results. Fotofacial™ may also be combined with one of our other laser treatments to target specific concerns and maximize results.
What is a treatment like?
Treatments may may take anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes, depending on the size of the area that needs to be treated. First, the area is cleansed and a cool-feeling gel is applied. When the pulse of light is applied, patients report that the sensation is similar to the snapping of a rubber band. After the treatment we will clean the skin and apply a good sunscreen. For sensitive skin, a cool compress may be applied following treatment to alleviate any residual irritation.
What improvement will I see?
Patients are typically very satisfied with their results. Expect to see a gradual decrease in redness, broken capillaries, flushing, irregular pigmentation, pore size, and fine lines. After each Fotofacial™ treatment, you will begin to see improvements in skin texture (it will feel smoother) and tone will be more even.
Those with more advanced sun damage may elect to have a more aggressive treatment that addresses not only pigment, but also sun damaged skin texture: photorejuvenation is best for advanced sun damage with pre-cancerous lesions (actinic keratoses).
